Why Do We Lose Harmony in Life? Did we ever had it?

People tend to seek shortcuts. Our natural operating system follows the mini-max principle – investing minimal effort for maximum results. However, most quickly realize that this approach does not work in the long run. When faced with reality, we start investing more effort, time, and energy to achieve success. Without realizing it, we fall into the trap of constantly spinning the wheel of work, success, and financial gain. Sooner or later, we lose balance and start wondering: Where did I lose my harmony?
Our mind-body system follows the principle of feeding the wolf – the part of us that we focus on the most becomes the strongest. When we relentlessly follow just one path, neglecting other aspects of our lives, harmony disappears. In truth, we never really had it – we only had the illusion of being on the right track until an external circumstance confronts us with reality.
Why Do We Lose Harmony?
We Focus Too Much on a Single Goal – Most of us follow societal expectations to be successful, productive, and continuously improving. In this process, we forget about other vital aspects of life, such as relationships, health, and inner peace.
Society Teaches Us Competition Instead of Balance – From a young age, we are programmed to constantly strive for more. However, no one teaches us how to maintain balance between work and personal life.
External Pressures Pull Us Away from Ourselves – The opinions of others, social norms, and expectations often dictate our path. Instead of following our inner values, we chase external validation, leading to a loss of identity and dissatisfaction.
Lack of Presence in the Moment – We are too focused on the future or the past and rarely truly experience the present moment. This leads to feelings of emptiness and dissatisfaction, as we are always waiting for something better.
How to Regain Harmony?
Awareness of Your Priorities – What truly fulfills you? There is nothing wrong with aiming high, but ask yourself if you are neglecting other crucial aspects of your life.
Creating Balance Between Work, Relationships, and Personal Growth – Harmony is not about being perfect in everything but about dedicating appropriate attention to each important aspect of your life.
Setting Boundaries – Learn to say "no" to things that do not contribute to your long-term happiness.
Being Present in the Moment – Focus on the now. When you learn to appreciate the present, you will feel less pressure from the future and fewer regrets about the past.
Conclusion
The real question is not Why don’t we have harmony? but rather Why did we never have it, and why weren’t we taught how to achieve it? Harmony is not something we gain or lose – it is something we must learn to create and maintain ourselves. Anyone can find their rhythm if they step away from the automated wheel of societal expectations and focus on what truly brings them fulfillment in life.
